We had another very important visit to our class that certainly enriched our investigation about the vicuñas. A family from our community, Federico Leers and his wife Noelia, both parents of Olivia from Olivos Kindergarten, came to talk about the process involved with the vicuña’s fiber, after they shear them.
The children were very happy to confirm that they used the “CHAKU” method in order to protect the vicuñas!!!
He showed us the steps that took place with the wool until they make it into fabric to use as coats, sweaters and other pieces of clothes.
He even brought wool for us to feel. It was ever so smooth!!!!!! And we also learnt to spin wool! What a great fine motor coordination activity!
The visit was a wonderful learning experience indeed!
